Introduction

My passion is to help others, especially through art. With 14 years of combined experience as an art teacher and a school counselor, I am excited to combine my knowledge to work with clients in a therapeutic setting. I earned my undergrad in Art Education with a minor in Art Therapy from Capital University. My master's degree in School Counseling is from Liberty University, and my Post-Master's certification in Art Therapy is from Edinboro University (now called PennWest). What I love about art therapy is that it is truly for EVERYONE: any age, any gender, any artistic level. Art Therapy does NOT require any artistic skill. Art Therapy is process-based, focusing on the journey of expression rather than making an artistic masterpiece. Art is the vehicle for emotions, feelings, thoughts, and ideas to be expressed. Art helps when words are difficult. A typical session will include a check-in/warm-up activity, an art intervention tailored to the client's goals and artistic preferences/comfort, in-depth discussion of artwork and directionality for future sessions. Between-session art prompts for "homework" will be offered. Why "Oyster and Pearl"? Oysters create pearls by using the irritating sand that comes into their shell. However, the oyster is able to create a beautiful pearl out of its negative situation. What is the sand in your life that needs direction to create pearls?
