Introduction
Hola my name is Lupe Nambo, a bilingual Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and owner of Luna Counseling here in Sacramento, California. I am a Latina, born and raised in Southern California, a first-generation college graduate, and a proud daughter of immigrants. After working for non-profit and county agencies most of my career, I decided to create Luna Counseling. I realized that community mental health is very limiting and will never allow me to practice therapy in a way that speaks to the people. Therapy historically has been and still is centered on white wellness. Traditional family therapy theories tend to frame white, middle‐class cultural norms as healthy standards for all families. ⠀ Well folx, I am here to challenge that narrative and do the work needed to move away from a colonized lens and towards liberation. I am still learning I am human, and I have a lot to unpack within myself, but I am committed nonetheless. I am forever learning, growing, and rebuilding.⠀ I firmly believe that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all, and it's time we give the power back to the people and let them define how they want to heal. When I am not working with people in the community, you can find me hiding under a book. I love to read! I also love food and enjoy the process of preparing a meal.
