The strength of the relationship is my primary focus in therapy. I approach relationships with openness and curiosity; and strive to be trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and culturally humble/responsive. My practice style mostly draws from Rogerian Psychotherapy (person-driven, insight-oriented) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), though I also draw from Psychoanalytic therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Existential Psychotherapy, Humanistic Psychotherapy, and psychoeducation. I work with many young adults (university students and young professionals) and with people from across the lifespan. I have experience with both mental health needs (mostly life transitions, depression, and anxiety) and with folks wanting to change their relationship with substance use (who are at a point in their recovery process where outpatient therapy can meet their needs). I earned both my undergraduate (BA Psychology) and graduate (Master of Social Work) degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My career path has included working for a community mental health center, for larger private clinical practices in directorial roles, and for the State of Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services as the Adolescent Substance Use Disorder Treatment Coordinator. In my clinical work, I have provided psychotherapy since 2012 and have been providing clinical supervision since 2017. I lecture at the University of Wisconsin Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work and have done so since the summer of 2016. Through my work as a lecturer, I was a member of the National Substance Use Disorder Curriculum Task Force with the Council on Social Work Education to help establish best practices and curriculum expectations for accredited Master of Social Work programs throughout the United States. I have also presented at various conferences across the state of Wisconsin. I was born and raised in Wisconsin. I moved to Madison for my undergraduate degree and have chosen to stay here ever since. Outside of work, I enjoy being a husband and uncle, traveling, staying physically active, playing and watching hockey, going to concerts, playing video games, building Lego sets, tinkering with my car, and keeping up with television shows and movies.
