Hello and I am so pleased that you are taking the time to do something meaningful for yourself. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know all of my new clients in person for the first session because I think this sets a tone for whether or not we are a good fit. Finding a therapist is like going to a dinner party with a lot of people but there are only 1 or 2 people that you really feel a possible connection. There is nothing wrong with the other 20 people at the party, but they just are not the right fit for you. Feeling at ease and comfortable with your therapist is vital for a good treatment outcome. I have expectations that my clients will be working on themselves and the therapy homework outside of our treatment sessions so that therapy has the possibility of being very short term. It really is all about wanting to make a change and my job is to nudge clients a little bit every session out of their comfort zone so that they can make the changes they come into sessions saying they want to make. Everything that we work on in sessions in confidential, but if you would like to invite in anyone from your life for a family session to help address interpersonal issues, I am delighted to have them join us, but only with your permission and after we have had several individual sessions so we are working on you first. Looking forward to being of service to you.
