Introduction

Laura is the owner and therapist of First Light Counseling, PLLC. Laura works with women dealing with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, PTSD, major life transitions, career changes, relationships, grief and loss, sleep issues, substance misuse, suicide loss survivorship, and cancer diagnosis/post-treatment survivorship. While Laura's primary focus is helping women, she supports inclusivity, diversity, and respect for all people. With a caring and trauma-informed approach, Laura helps clients explore and examine the root causes of their current distress to begin the process of healing old wounds, breaking unhelpful patterns, and finding new hope. In this exploration, clients also uncover and celebrate their positive traits and strengths, helping them to shift their perspective to a more generous and compassionate understanding of themselves. Laura supports her clients in the odyssey of self-exploration, helping them to build the courage to trust themselves, gain self-awareness, take action, and make lasting positive change in their lives. Laura's approach is influenced by psychodynamic therapy, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and mindfulness techniques. She enters sessions with a person-centered approach, providing gentle support during difficult experiences, offering new perspectives, and encouraging clients' rediscovery of their agency, engagement, hope, and self-worth. Good therapy is built on the foundation of a safe and trusting relationship between the client and the therapist, which is always a priority in Laura's work. Self-exploration can be challenging, and creating positive change takes courage and commitment. It's Laura's honor and privilege to walk alongside you.
