Lani Weller was born and raised in Hawaii and has always been drawn toward helping others. She moved to Los Angeles to complete her bachelors in Sociology in 2003 and worked summers in NYC at the New York Foundation for Senior Citizens. As an undergraduate thesis project she did qualitative research on the use of creativity in the process of successfully aging and presented her work publicly in a solo student art show. After graduation Lani continued to focus on aging by working with Wise Senior Services in Santa Monica to spread awareness on Senior Fraud and financial abuse. Lani pursued a Masters of Social Work at USC while simultaneously obtaining her Master in Geriatrics. Graduate work included hospital based Palliative Care and community based Mental Health. After collecting clinical hours, Lani went on to develop and manage an intensive field based mental health program for older adults. In 2011, Lani followed her heart back to NYC and went on to work at the Hebrew Home for six years overseeing their Care Management program. During that time Lani also led caregiver support groups with the Alzheimer’s Association. Lani prides herself on her ability to bond with clients that might be resistant towards accepting help and finds pleasure in working with families to create a plan that promotes safety and maximizes autonomy. While aging comes with a series of difficult situations, Lani believes that NYC is one of the best cities in the world to age. With proper planning and management, families can prepare for challenges and navigate decisions. Working with a Care Manager adds a level of security and support to an otherwise difficult process.
