Main Types of Practices of Focus of Counseling EMDR Therapy is rapid eye movement desensitization or adaptive information processing for both youth and adults with focus on traumatic experiences This type of therapy is scientifically proven to be a best practice for trauma or people who have experienced any type of intense trauma. EMDR works well with our active duty military and our veterans who have had traumatic experiences or have PTSD. This trauma focused therapy requires intense training on the counselors' part and very hard work on the clients' part as well. The purpose of EMDR is to pull the trauma memory to the frontal lobe of the brain where it can be processed in an adaptive way rather than remembering little bits and pieces of what happened. Our brain, to help us cope with trauma that is too stressful to handle at the time, often suppresses it. Telling us it is too emotionally overwhelming in our "old" brain or the primitive part of our brain. By using EMDR to process what happened; physically, emotionally, and mentally. EMDR allows the brain to process the whole story of the trauma that is stored in our memory. Our mind and our emotions adjust to a more adaptive way of processing the event(s). After this adaptive process. Information processing allows the trauma that has impacted our present, past, and future; no longer has control of our emotions or thoughts. This can result in improving all areas of our wellness. I also use many other types of counseling, I best practice therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
