Introduction

Hi my name is Kristi Efford and I am a Pre-Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I earned my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Whitworth University. My journey toward becoming a therapist has been deeply influenced by my faith, my own personal obstacles and my empathy for individuals, couple’s and families facing emotional and spiritual challenges. The hope that I have in Christ Jesus gives me confidence in the power of growth, change, and transformation. My therapeutic approach is client-centered, collaborative, and is viewed through a systemic lens. I believe that stable, healthy relationships and families create thriving communities. In my clinical work I use therapeutic techniques such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy to meet each client's unique needs. Facilitating a safe, non-judgmental environment where my clients can build upon resilience, healing and wholeness is something I am very committed to. Kristi's Therapy Interest Areas: Grief Therapy, also known as grief counseling or bereavement therapy, is designed to help individuals cope with and navigate through the complex emotions and challenges that arise after the loss of a loved one or a significant life change. Grief is a natural and complex emotional response to loss, and grief therapy aims to provide individuals and families with the support and tools they need to safely process their feelings, gain education around grief being an individualized journey, make meaning of the loss and eventually adapt to their changed circumstances. Couples & Sex Therapy: This specialized form of therapy focuses on addressing issues related to relationships, intimacy and sexual concerns. Therapy aims to provide individuals and partners with the tools, communication skills, and strategies they need to navigate relationship challenges and improve their emotional and sexual well-being. Sex therapy addresses issues related to sexual function, desire, arousal and intimacy. Based on assessment, personalized treatment plans are created and may incorporate behavioral, cognitive and emotional techniques to address specific sexual concerns. Both couples therapy and sex therapy can provide individuals and couples with a safe space to address sensitive topics to develop healthier ways of relating to each other emotionally and intimately. Anxiety: Therapy to address anxiety is approached through evidence-based tools to help individuals understand, manage, and alleviate their anxiety symptoms. Several therapeutic techniques and modalities can be employed and often tailored to the specific needs and preferences of the individual. Working together as a collaborative team, the therapist gathers information about the individual’s history, symptoms, triggers, and goals. This information helps to formulate a treatment plan which may include, but is not limited to, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques. Divorce care can take place in both individual sessions and/or in a group setting and is designed to help individuals and families navigate the emotional and practical challenges associated with divorce or separation. Divorce care therapy provides a safe and empathetic space for people who are going through or have gone through the divorce process to share their experiences, gain insights, and develop coping skills. Wounded by church or burned out in ministry: Therapy for individuals who have been wounded by the Christian church, often referred to as "faith-based trauma therapy," is a specialized form of counseling aimed at addressing the emotional and psychological distress resulting from negative or harmful experiences within a religious or Christian context. Therapy provides a safe and supportive space for clients to heal from past trauma and navigate their unique spiritual and emotional journey, promoting overall well-being. Pre-marital Counseling: Pre-Marital counseling is designed to help create a foundation for a healthy marital relationship before you say, I do! Prepare/Enrich is one of the most widely researched assessment tools, used to identify potential problem areas in your relationship including the four most common issues that cause distress in marriages: finances, communication/conflict, sex, and in-laws. Pre-marital counseling is a great way to work through issues, creating goals and rituals for a strong and stable start! Stress and/or anger management: Anger and stress management therapy is a specialized form of counseling or psychotherapy designed to help individuals understand, manage, and reduce their anger and stress levels. These therapies are particularly beneficial for individuals who struggle with intense or chronic anger, frequent stress, and the negative consequences that can result from these emotions. Anger and stress management therapy can be highly effective in helping individuals develop healthier ways of coping with these emotions, improving their overall well-being, and reducing the negative impact on their personal and professional relationships. Parenting challenges: Therapy for parenting challenges is highly individualized, and the approach will depend on the specific issues and goals of the parents. The ultimate aim is to create a nurturing and supportive family environment that promotes the well-being of both parents and children. Therapy can be a valuable resource for parents seeking guidance and support in navigating the complexities of raising children. Young adult/Identity: Counseling for young adults or college-aged students is a specialized form of therapy that addresses the unique challenges and issues faced by individuals in this age group. This transitional period is marked by significant changes, including academic pressures, career decisions, personal growth, and increased independence.
