Introduction

Welcome! My name is Kim White and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT 52628). I have been practicing in the field of mental health since 2004, and have been licensed since 2012. Over the last 15 years, I have held positions at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center and UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services, served in clinical and supervisory roles in multiple community mental health organizations in Los Angeles, and worked as faculty in the psychology department at Santa Monica College and West Los Angeles College. My modality of treatment is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy strategies, trauma resilience, mindfulness, and psychoeducation. My areas of specialization are in wanted and unwanted life transitions, grief and loss, intimacy enhancement, and postpartum mental health. I use a strength based approach to expand self awareness, increase insight surrounding thought processes, and enhance coping strategies already existing in each person. I am an "active" therapist who engages in your process through conversation. My style aims to support each individual as they learn healthy patterns of interaction, manage distress and discomfort, and strengthen boundaries and intimacy. I believe everyone deserves to be fully seen, heard, validated and honored in their growth, pain, and healing. I recognize these aspects of people vocally in session, and am fully present as we navigate your healing together. I view my role in the healing process as a collaborative guide and resource on the map of your growth. I am aware that there are many ways to get to the same destination, and I believe each person has their own agency to decide the direction. I recognize we are not taught all the skills we need to wrestle with life's toughest challenges. Most of the time, we are expected to get through life transitions on our own with skills we have outgrown. Healing can, but does not need to, happen in isolation. You set the direction, pace, and focus of your treatment. I will hold the map to guide you along the way. Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions about my practice or style of therapy. I value open and transparent dialogue about what works and does not work for each individual in their healing process. If I am unable to provide the support or specialization required for your healing, I am happy to provide referrals for mental health providers that best fit each individual. We do not need to navigate our healing alone, and I look forward to being a helpful guide in your journey.
