Introduction

I have been in the field of substance abuse treatment for 7 years. My passion in working with substance use disorder clients started through life experiences not only with myself but with close family and friends. My career started in a residential treatment center working with women with children. I transitioned to working with the homeless population as a harm reduction counselor in MAT treatment to becoming an Intensive Outpatient counselor. I have continued to work on my education in addiction, human services, psychology, and social work, as well as seeking out training on how to provide the best care to help people be the best that they can be in their sobriety. I have a CADC II, an Associates in Addiction counseling, a Bachelor’s degree in human services, majoring in Psychology and currently in my Master of Social Work program to become an LCSW. I enjoy observing a person who is ambivalent about addiction and their identity, go through the stages of change, working on themselves and watching the happiness that comes from it. I believes that recovery is about changing behaviors, thinking patterns to be a healthy person in all aspects of one’s life, and finding their inner strength to be their best self. Therefore I strives to teach skills to help an individual be successful in areas of their life that include employment, daily activities, interpersonal relationships; and especially a relationship with themselves. I believe that as a professional in this field it is important to meet a person where they are at and always be available with open ears, heart and mind.
