Introduction

I am a licensed clinical social worker and clinical addiction specialist licensed to practice therapy in the state of North Carolina, with a specialty certification in trauma. My passion is working with individuals (males and females ages 16-65) who have experienced trauma and life hardships and, as a result, have developed survival patterns that no longer serve them, impacting their quality of life. These typically manifest as mental health experiences such as PTSD, mood (depression, dysthymia, bipolar), relationship inconsistencies, anxiety, addictions, fear, codependency, anger, rage, stress, obsessive-compulsive, dissociative, somatic, eat/sleep/sexual dysfunction, disruptive/impulse control, self-defeating/troubling behaviors, and physical illnesses. I believe Hemingway nailed it! In "Farewell to Arms," he proclaims, "The world breaks everyone, and afterward, many are stronger at the broken places." If you are experiencing mental health (including substance use) problems, you are among the most resilient people in the world. If you think about it, you have overcome every challenging day of your life. Reaching out for help is scary, challenging, and an act of courage and strength. I know this professionally AND personally. Everyone's journey is different. My mental health, substance, and life stressors ruled me for most of my adult life. I know how hard it can be to experience sexual/physical/emotional trauma, addiction, depression, grief, financial and relational ruin, and overwhelming anxiety. You wish you could get through a day without the jaw clenching, palm sweating, handshakes, thoughts racing, heart pounding symptoms, thinking that something is wrong with you, doubting every idea, thought, and emotion, feeling as though nothing you do is right. Sometimes, you experience paralyzing nightmares or dreams that you are moving in slow motion, while other times, you wonder if you are real or dreaming when you are awake. You can feel so alone and isolated when in a crowded room. You might daydream about what your life would be like, how much more you could get done if you weren't constantly second-guessing yourself and living a life without the "what ifs" and constant dread (or what I call the invisible weighted depression blanket). I get it; I've lived it and worked with many others who have as well. I am constantly amazed by the resilience of people. We are a product of our life experiences; everyone's mental health journey is unique. I've learned the therapeutic relationship coupled with client self-determination is essential to successful therapy. I copilot a journey with my clients, tapping into their victories, exploring who they are at their core, and discovering and identifying behaviors/thoughts/habits that serve and support their values or are a detriment to their desired life direction. Then collaborate on a client's paced plan, suggesting therapeutic backed adjustments that may impact self and world views to lessen symptoms and support the client's intentions. This work/journey is usually a three-step forward, two-step back process, with mixed experiences of difficulty, fear, confusion, self-disdain, resolution, inspiration, insight, self-love, courage, and confidence. I humbly believe it is an honor and privilege to be trusted and be granted access to a part of clients' lives as we work together to reignite the inner spark of hope that fuels the mental renaissance. I possess a warm demeanor and an innate empathetic ability to connect with people, allowing me to see the world from others' eyes. My outside interests include: spending time with my family, learning something new, creating music (working to become a rock star if this therapist thing doesn't work), painting (primarily watercolors, but I'm branching out), gardening/landscaping (we can talk all day about my lawn), playing golf, watching sports (Who Dat), and simply being outdoors. I am accepting new clients at $135 per telehealth and in-person 50-minute session. I accept BCBS, United, Aetna, Cigna, and Humana insurances. Life's recovery and growth journey come by way of connection and self-exploration. I do hope you find yours!
