Introduction

Welcome to Layers Counseling! My name is Katie Beddingfield. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Clinical Social worker. I have been working in mental health since 2013. I have worked with various populations including ages, demographics, cultures, religious beliefs and problems, including various levels of care. I have experience in trauma, relationship issues, life stage issues, pain and addiction, specifically chemical and process addictions such as sex and love addiction and eating disorders. I have training in EMDR level 1 and 2. I will begin working on my Somatic Experiencing certification in June 2024 and will complete in June 2027. Somatic Experiencing therapy focuses on addressing trauma by helping individuals tune into bodily sensations and release stored physical tension and stress response associated with past experiences. This process can restore the body's natural ability to self-regulate and promote a sense of safety and calm. Therefore, living with a more regulated nervous system. This allows individuals to better manage stress, think clearly, form healthier relationships, and respond to challenges more effectively, rather than reacting out of fear and anxiety. Layers Counseling is all about peeling back the layers to find one's authentic self. There are many events that happen in our lives that lead us away from our true selves. I want to help clients find themselves and live from a place of authenticity. Peeling back the layers allows individuals to understand themselves more fully and to develop a healthier relationship with themselves and others. In therapy, we explore past and present experiences, family dynamics, attachment styles, coping mechanisms, patterns, strengths, and weaknesses to understand and address various aspects of life. I take a Family Systems approach, meaning I look at the entire system and problem as a whole—how it works versus just the individuals. We are more than our problems, and context matters in making sense of our lives and behaviors. I use various family therapy models in therapy as well. My mission is to help people live their life more authentically in their mind and body, because you have to live in there all the time! For more information, check out https://layerscounselingms.com.
