I would describe myself as an intuitive, engaging, and nurturing therapist. I am most passionate about helping children and caregivers form deeper connections in their relationships. As a child I was fortunate to have had a counselor. My counselor helped me to identify my feelings, find my voice, and trust myself. I have always wanted to give, what she gave me, back to other children and families. I am in awe of the resilience of the human spirit, and I am honored to help facilitate growth in the lives of others. My Approach to Counseling: As a facilitator of change, I take a very child and parent centered approach to counseling. I provide non-judgmental counseling filled with unconditional positive regard, and I focus on my clients’ overall personal growth and wellness, not just the identified problem. I respect that a parent knows his or her child better than anyone. I believe in incorporating the healing power of play and laughter into counseling regardless of client age. I concentrate on helping my clients to acknowledge their daily progress and to challenge their beliefs and “shoulds” around their needs for perfection. I stay conscious and aware of how past traumas may be playing a role in the lives of my clients. I believe that all of my clients and their needs are unique and worthy of respect. I also believe that it is okay to ask for help. I am most passionate about helping children and caregivers become more aligned with their inherent worth and true authenticity, and in turn feeling more connected. My office allows children and parents the freedom to feel, to express, and to explore all parts of who they are in a safe space free from judgement. It is a place where children’s behaviors are understood to be outward expressions of their current nervous system activation rather than a reflection of their character. It is a place where children get to heal, from the inside and from the lower parts of the brain up, using their language, the language of play. My work is informed by the Synergetic Play Therapy Modality. I also utilize Person Centered, Cognitive Behavioral, Adlerian, and strengths based interventions. I am committed to my clients and the service that I provide to them. My Experience: With fifteen years of experience working with children, and families, I have helped clients with a variety of presenting issues including, depression, anxiety, attention deficit and hyperactive behaviors, social difficulties, adjustment difficulties, behavior difficulties, anger, grief, and parenting concerns. I have worked in a variety of different settings including mental health agencies, inpatient facilities, schools, clinics and private practice. I have also worked as an adjunct instructor at the graduate level teaching child and adolescent diagnosis courses. I currently serve on the board for the Louisiana Association for Play Therapy and I am a graduate of the Association for Play Therapy Leadership Academy. My Credentials: I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of New Orleans (2005) and a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from LSU Health Sciences Center (2007).
