I am trained in effective, evidenced-based approaches including CBT, ACT, and Motivational Interviewing. The core of my work aligns best, however, with an Internal Family Systems Model of functioning that embraces the complexity of our human brains. We are capable, and even built, for contradiction. The very sensations or symptoms that trouble us frequently are adaptations to protect and keep us going about our daily lives. My goal is to help clients disengage from patterns of self-judgment, irritability, anger, fear, guilt, or sadness that keep them stuck, while building capacities for pleasure and creativity. You may be seeking therapy at an especially painful time, out of a sense of persistent discontent, or as a result acute desire for change. At its heart this is a deeply hopeful action. Therapy can help you use this energy to alter how you relate to yourself and to others, and in so doing expand your ability to create the quality of life you crave. My stance is one of appreciation and admiration for my client’s whole person, and has evolved from my work in psychiatric hospital settings, Veteran care, and private practice. I am experienced in working with those who carry deep feelings of pain, regret, and frustration. I will honor these burdens but champion your innate capacity for connection and joy.
