Specialties: Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Grief

Introduction

Hello. I’m Karen. I am so glad you are here. If you are considering therapy, or have questions about the process, this is the place to start. I offer teletherapy appointments throughout the state of Florida. Telehealth allows us to meet virtually from your desktop, tablet or mobile device. Traditional office sessions are also available in Gainesville. Contacting me and setting up an appointment is simple. If you’re feeling stuck, I am here to help you navigate the road ahead. I graduated from the University of Florida’s Counselor Education Program in 1994, and have been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for nearly 25 years. My background is in treating medical trauma, grief, loss, loneliness, anxiety and depression. These issues are often attached to personal loss/trauma, life transitions, or current and past relationship struggles. If you have not utilized counseling in the past, please know that it is simply a safe place to tell your story and make the changes that you chose. If you have taken part in counseling before, welcome back. Adjustments, adaptations and growth are lifelong pursuits. My counseling style is empathic, interactive and solution focused. You and your strengths are the focus of treatment. Solutions focused and cognitive behavioral therapies have impact across many situations because they offer guidance and tools for real life. Because of this, I use these approaches, combined with mindfulness, often. Focusing on how thoughts impact emotions and implanting steps towards change means that counseling does not generally need to be long term. Effective therapy sends people out with tools and strategies to use immediately and into the future. Therapy is not about becoming “less anxious, not lonely or not depressed.” It’s about becoming happy, content, engaged and connected. Think of counseling as a road map or a guide. It’s a tool to plan the best route towards your goals. Along the way, you get to decide the pace, detours, and destination…but there is lots of help along the way with direction, re-fueling and taking in the scenery. Are you ready? Let’s go…
