Great to meet you! My name is Karen Rivera-Seda and I am a Jamaican born licensed professional counselor (LPC) who conducts sessions in English as well as in Jamaican Patois (Patwah). I am trained in both marriage, couple, and family therapy (MCFT) and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT). Through forming a collaborative partnership, I provide support to high school seniors, college students, and adults in the areas of anxiety, grief, life transitions, postpartum anxiety, betrayal trauma, immigrant parent(s) concerns, and being the adult child of immigrants. I also provide support to couples in the areas of communication, marital, premarital, pre-engagement and pre-cohabitation. My therapeutic style possesses systemic undertones and mainly utilizes techniques from Structural Therapy, Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy. Elements from other approaches are incorporated as needed. My work with clients always involves a review of ecosystemic influences (e.g. family, culture, school/work, friends, interests) as everyone possesses unique experiences that can affect their starting points and needs presentation. I strive to provide a collaborative partnership with each client; where each client can feel heard, safe and empowered to become the agents of change in their lives. The unknown aspects that can often accompany starting therapy for the first time or with a new therapist can be scary for some clients. My goal is to eliminate or at the very least minimize the aforementioned by providing a safe, non-judgmental environment where clients can feel comfortable going at their own pace. My hope is for each client to leave their first session feeling supported, hopeful, and ready to embark on their journey towards meeting the goals they have set for therapy. I am committed to supporting you every step of the way in your therapeutic journey. If you are ready to take the first step, I invite you to schedule your free consultation with me to see if we might be a good therapeutic match.
