Introduction

Julissa Reynoso, LMHC I was born in Dominican Republic and came to Miami at a young age. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to interact with different cultures that make up this rich community. Living in South Florida and coming from a diverse family has shaped me in my professional goals, increasing my passion for Mental Health and serving communities of difference. I graduated with a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University (2014) and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Florida. Throughout my work history I have advocated and supported those who need it the most. I have had the opportunity to work with families and individuals of difference in helping them through concerns such as grief, parent-child conflict, intergenerational conflict, addiction, trauma, depression, anxiety and so on. This has helped refine my skills in counseling others especially in a cultural context. I have also spent 2 years abroad as a volunteer in the Peace Corps. There I worked closely with young adults and families in educating them on different issues such as self-esteem, domestic violence, and reducing discrimination and biases associated with marginalized groups and individuals of different identities. My therapeutic and advocacy experience has reinforced in me the value of helping others gain insight and implement strategies to move towards positive change. My job as a therapist is to care for emotional, behavioral and physical issues being impacted by your mental health. Together, we will explore factors impacting your life and identify strategies that you can use immediately to help get you to the changes you desire. My therapeutic orientation is eclectic and I have experience working with different therapeutic styles. I have received training in several therapeutic interventions including Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Gottman Method Couples Therapy Intervention. Together we can determine which strategy is best for you and create goals accordingly. Throughout the process I will be supporting, reassuring and even challenging you to help manage obstacles and attain positive change. I very much encourage clients to take a hold of their therapeutic treatment. This is not about me telling you what to do, but about us having a relationship where you feel heard, understood and not judged in discussing your concerns and exploring ways to improve. You are your own expert after all. If this is the type of therapeutic relationship you’re seeking then please know I am here for you.
