Do you sometimes feel that your emotions are telling you one thing, but your reason is telling you another? Or, as if you are not living authentically? Do you feel driven by your emotions as if they have a “mind” of their own? Do you see things in terms of all or nothing," black and white?" We take on many different roles in life: wife, husband, partner, mother, father, daughter, son, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, career woman, stay at home dad, student, soccer player etc. We often function in these roles on automatic pilot giving little or no attention to our needs for rest, nourishment, reflection, and support. Sometimes in the shuffle of “doing” we lose our ability to “be,” our ability to tap into our inner knowing of what is best for us. As a result, we may struggle with many different and distressful feelings and conditions; depression, fear, anxiety, phobias, obsessions, impulsive behaviors, low self-worth etc. These may result from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. I can help you understand the complex interrelationship of these factors, and how they impact your life, spiritually, emotionally, physically, and mentally. These factors may cause pain and discomfort. The source of your pain may stem from childhood issues or traumas, or recent traumas. I think I can help you gain insight into your struggles. I can act as a catalyst for change that you may be looking for. My name is Julie Ayn Discenza, I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and JD Family Counseling is my private practice. I am trained to provide insight into this issue. I am interested in connecting with you and understanding your heartfelt needs. I believe that when one’s heart and head are united, an authentic life will unfold naturally. I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), incorporating mindfulness skills, interpersonal effectiveness skills, emotional regulation skills, and distress tolerance skills. In addition, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which posits that our feelings are a result of our negative thinking patterns which stem from our core beliefs about ourselves, others, and the world. I also use Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to treat trauma, and Virginia Satir's Experiential Family Therapy to help families grow as individuals and to communicate congruently. I treat children, teenagers, adults, couples, and families. I welcome people from all walks of life, and I offer a Christian slant to psychotherapy upon request. Some of the issues and disorders I treat include, but are not limited to: Grief and Loss, Divorce Recovery, Affair Recovery, Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Phobias, Self-Injurious Behavior, ADHD, Coping with Chronic Pain, Parenting Struggles, Emotional Dysregulation, Recovery from Pathological Relationships, Self-Esteem, etc.. I do hope you will give me a call so we start healing your heart and creating the authentic life you deserve to live. Julie A. Discenza M.Ed., M.S., LMFT #92632 (951) 667-1095
