Empowerment means to 'become powerful.' It is embodying your inner strength and making a conscious decision to take charge of your destiny. It is giving yourself permission to succeed by making positive choices and taking action to advance your goals. Dr. Tate is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of Virginia who earned her Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Counseling Psychology. She has worked with adolescents and adults in outpatient, inpatient psychiatric hospital settings, and correctional settings. Her diverse training experiences have provided her the opportunity to work with individuals of various ages (adults only), backgrounds, and presenting challenges. Dr. Tate is trained as a generalist, however, has particular interests and strengths working with personality dysfunction, career/vocational counseling, life transitions, grief, substance use addictions, and BIPOC/ LGBTQ+ populations. Dr. Tate identifies as an integrationist who draws primarily from cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, solution focused, strength based, multicultural-feminist, and interpersonal frameworks, while also tailoring the approach to each client to best suit their needs. With all clients she strives to create a safe environment through a genuine therapeutic relationship rooted in trust and authenticity. She believes everyone deserves a safe space to feel empowered, heal, and grow with the goal to live as freely and authentically as possible. In addition to psychotherapy services, Dr. Tate provides Psychological Testing/Evaluations (adults only) and has specialized training in Forensic Assessment and Evaluations. She is certified in the state of Virginia by the Commissioner’s List of Approved Forensic Evaluators. She provides Violence Risk Assessment and Competency, and Sanity Evaluations.
