Hi! My name is Jessica Chapman. I am a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in perinatal mental health, family of origin trauma, adoption, and parenting support. I have 15 years experience working with individuals, parents, and families. I am trained in a variety of modalities - EMDR, TF-CBT, Narrative Therapy, Circle of Security Parenting, Attachment Theory, Family Systems Theory, and more. The transition into parenthood is often more complex than we could ever imagine. Many people are surprised by their complicated feelings related to their new role. Maybe there is heartache around a traumatic birth? Maybe you are experiencing feelings of deep sadness or anxiety related to your new role as a parent? Maybe you are feeling a sense of guilt at how much you miss your old life before having a child? Maybe your journey to parenthood is taking longer than expected due to fertility issues and there is a lot of grief wrapped up in that process? Maybe you grew up in a tumultuous home and you are questioning if you would be a “good enough/strong enough/healthy enough” parent, or childhood wounds have suddenly surfaced after the birth of your child? Maybe you are having a hard time feeling close to your new baby? Maybe your child is a bit older and parenting has become challenging in ways that support would be helpful or you are feeling triggered by your child’s behaviors? Or maybe you are feeling a general sense of exhaustion from your role as a caregiver? I am passionate about helping people wherever they are in their parenting journey. Most of my work is done through an attachment lens (how we love and how we have been loved) and I find it helpful to explore ways that both big and little traumas affect our worldviews. I aim to help my clients develop their own inner resources so that they can move from survival mode to truly enjoying each phase of the parenting process.
