As a native of the area and lover of the everything coastal, I compare therapy to the salt marsh. Many are not aware of how important the salt marsh is in maintaining healthy water quality and reducing pollution. The salt marsh acts like a filter, protecting us from flooding and erosion by creating a buffer to protect from storm surge, and providing a nursery and safe haven for commercial and recreational fisheries. Like the salt marsh, therapy acts like a filtration system for individuals working through the challenging aspects of mental illness, relationships, and life transitions. The therapeutic setting provides a safe space to be vulnerable, to learn healthy coping skills, to gain self-awareness, and to evolve as a person. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and enjoy working with young adults, college students and adults. I practice a strengths-based therapeutic approach which focuses on the abilities, talents, and resources that you already have.
