I specialize in counseling children, teenagers, young adults, and parents with various concerns, such as anxiety, social skills, behavioral issues, and anger management skills, parent/teenager relationships, and school issues. I am particularly passionate about helping children and teenagers learn social skills and coping skills to thrive in schools and at home, as many children have a difficult time in the adolescent and teenage years discovering who they are and how to handle emotions. Prior to counseling, I worked as a youth director, and throughout my time I realized my true passion was helping youth grow and understand who they really are. So I went back to school because life is too short to not follow your passion. I earned a masters degree in clinical mental health from University of Alabama at Birmingham. During my three years as a licensed counselor, I have worked for Impact Family Counseling as an outpatient counselor as well as a schools counselor for children referred by various school systems. What’s counseling like with me? I typically utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused, and person-centered approaches. The counseling approach used completely depends on the individual, and each approach will be tailored to the specific needs of the client. The relationship between the client and counselor is one the most important tools for growth, so I prioritize building the relationship with the client to create a safe, comfortable, and fun space for each individual to express themselves. For children and teenagers this can be done in a variety of ways such as playing games the child enjoys or discussing their hobbies to connect with the individual so that counseling can have greater benefits. For adults, this may look like developing a relationship of trust and exploring any topics on the client’s mind over time.
