She utilizes psychodynamic psychotherapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and helps clients regulate emotions, tolerate distress, and enjoy more effective interpersonal relationships. Prior to entering private practice, Dr. Sharf worked as a supervising psychologist at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and the Pace University Counseling Center. Her responsibilities included supervising doctoral and pre-doctoral psychology trainees, psychiatry residents, and fellows, with a primary focus on building psychotherapeutic skills. She also worked for Project Liberty, New York’s FEMA-funded mental health response to 9/11. Dr. Sharf is committed to working in a multicultural- and LGBTQI-affirming therapy environment. FAQ What types of therapy do you use? I utilize psychodynamic psychotherapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which focus on helping clients regulate emotions, tolerate distress, develop mindfulness skills, and enjoy more effective interpersonal relationships. We will work together to determine the type of therapy that is the best fit for you. What are typical issues you see in your practice? I often treat people who have anxiety, depression, stress, adjustment issues, and personality concerns, but each client is unique. Many issues are more complex and are often a result of a combination of anxiety, mood, interpersonal, and external stressors. Do you have other specialties? Yes. I also specialize in college student mental health. Another interest of mine is helping people who have dropped out of previous therapy.
