Like many modern counselors, I take a holistic and integrative approach to therapy which involves integrating various elements of different theories and practice. I lean most heavily on cognitive behavioral approaches focused on how people’s thinking can change feelings and behaviors and a Humanistic approach focused on helping clients achieve their highest potential. I like to emphasize the goodness in each client and work toward each person’s growth and self-actualization. I have also integrated Solution Focused Therapy and Brief Strategic Family Therapy into my approach making my therapeutic relationships generally briefer in nature, oriented toward problem-solving, and focused on a client’s present situation and distorted thinking rather than on dwelling past failures and hurts.
