My name is Ivan Porto, MSW, and I am dedicated to helping couples/partnerships learn to honor their various identities and needs in their journeys toward wholeness. I am first generation, cisgender, Mexican-born, American, male. I also identify as a Jew of Color, a husband, and a learner of many languages. I am passionate about exploring couples' families of origin, various environments and identities (each and every aspect of your identities) and how they impact your individual and shared lives. This includes examining the influence of race, gender, ethnicity, and primary language among many other other factors. As a couple's/partnership therapist, my goal is to understand the positions from each partner involved and to facilitate communication that leads to greater understanding. It is NOT to impose my own views of what your relationship should be or to pick sides. Let me help your couple/partnership, if you are navigating challenges with: - Communication - Intimacy - Infidelity - Family/life transitions - Cultural/Linguistic differences As a therapist, I am firmly committed to co-creating a space that is anti-racist, supportive of the LGBTQIA+ and disabled communities, and a place where anyone can feel welcome, seen, heard, and valued. EDUCATION & TRAINING: MSW - Hunter College, Silberman School of Social Work (NY) Florida Registered Clinical Social Work Intern (ISW16407). I am working toward independent licensure under the supervision of Alicia Brown, LCSW-QS (SW16179). Clinical Extern in post-graduate training in Family and Couples/Relational Therapy at Ackerman Institute for the Family (NY). Expected Graduation 2021. Ackerman Institute for the Family, Social Work and Diversity Program Graduate.
