Introduction

Welcome to Nurturing Nature! My name is Heather Johnson. I graduated from West Texas A&M University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor- Associate under the supervision of Michelle Byrd, LCSW-S and Rosanne C. Juarez, LPC-S. For over 20 years I have worked as a middle school educator, helping adolescents learn how to play musical instruments successfully, while also supporting their social and emotional learning. I began my Master’s program after the Covid pandemic, largely because I saw an increased need for mental health clinicians, support, and resources. I am drawn toward techniques that are active, collaborative, and engaging, such as cognitive-behavioral (CBT, REBT) and solution-focused approaches. I am also very interested in therapeutic approaches that include creative arts. I believe mental health IS health and that every person deserves to feel their very best. I find joy in helping each person realize that they are innately valuable and worthy, and that they are not alone. Adolescence is especially difficult, and I enjoy helping each child build their resilience, grow and thrive through the most confusing time of their young life. I have a large amount of experience in helping adults and adolescents with depression, social anxiety, performance anxiety, self-esteem and other issues from my previous experience as an educator. I would like to expand upon that knowledge in a therapeutic setting. Currently, I am focused on gaining experience with all age levels. Most people in my personal life describe my personality as: an introvert that plays an extrovert when necessary. Friends have described me as kind, friendly, decisive, collaborative, creative, compassionate, and hard-working. I have two very spoiled cats named Mika and Maizy who really run the household. I’m also the aunt to three amazing kids: 2 nephews and a niece. When I’m not working, I can be found making music, painting, or drawing. I love playing viola, violin, and piano.
