Some moments in life are great, and some moments are… not so great. Our daily experiences often test our emotional resilience—from the heartache of a relationship ending, to the pressure of a looming deadline at work, or even the profound grief of losing a loved one. For these moments, big and small, we need a way to handle the emotions and decisions our circumstances provoke. We need a way to cope. Having coping strategies is essential in maintaining our mental and emotional wellbeing as we navigate the more challenging aspects of life. I help clients become their best selves through self-exploration, empowerment and identifying self-defeating behaviors and patterns. I always offer a non-judgmental environment and unconditional positive regard. Often, one already holds the keys to unlocking the potential within and finding the answers to what is holding them back. Reconnecting with your OWN wisdom in therapy gives you the power to recognize your worth and needs, improve relationships, and fully care for yourself. It is time to heal experiences that affect feeling whole; childhood hurts, family problems, grief, and trauma. I can help you live your authentic life. My goal, as a therapist is to help you feel happier in who you are: with yourself, your family, and romantic partners. I create a warm, non-judgemental relationship for sharing your story and am with you the whole way. Let me come along side you, and together I can help you grow. Please do not hesitate to call or email me! I genuinely enjoy the process of therapy and counseling, and I always believe in providing nonjudgmental acceptance. I want to hear YOUR truth! Our journey together begins with our therapeutic relationship, as well as the rapport and trust between us. Introduction to Therapy: I became passionate about therapy and mental health after many of my own personal experiences , and with early inspiration to make positive changes within myself. Whether it was seeing a loved one struggle with mental health, having my own transformative experience in therapy, or simply recognizing a deep interest in human behavior, I felt a calling to help others navigate life's challenges. My Journey: My professional journey began when in 1997 when I took an Introduction to Abnormal Psychology course at a local community college and decided to pursue my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, followed by a combined masters and doctorate program for Clinical Psychology. I have been practicing as a Clinical Therapist since 2002, and have never looked back! After many of my own trials and tribulations, I knew that this was the path I wanted to take. I pursued my degrees and trainings, learning the theories, methods, and skills necessary to support individuals in their own journeys toward healing and growth. Early Experience: In the early years of my career, I gained much insight into abnormal human behavior , interning at a clinic, or working under a mentor. These experiences helped shape my therapeutic approach and solidified my desire to create a safe, empathetic space for clients to explore their thoughts and emotions. Why Therapy Matters to Me: Therapy has the power to motivate you about the work—whether it's the process of healing, fostering resilience, creating connection, etc.. I believe deeply in the transformative potential of therapy and feel honored to be part of my clients' journeys. Continued Growth: I continue to evolve as a therapist by attending monthly and yearly trainings and ongoing education, workshops, or any areas of specialization am focusing on currently. I’m passionate about healing, trauma, relationships, mindfulness, etc. and always strive to integrate new approaches into my work to best serve my clients. Conclusion: Every client’s story is unique, and I am committed to providing a supportive and nonjudgmental environment where individuals can find clarity, strength, and healing. My goal is to help you achieve a deeper understanding of yourself and move forward in a more fulfilling and balanced way. My path to becoming a therapist began with my own experiences navigating life's challenges and a deep interest in human psychology. I’ve always been fascinated by how our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors shape our lives, and I felt a natural draw to supporting others through their own personal growth and healing. As I continued to develop as a therapist, I realized my passion for trauma-informed care and working with individuals coping with grief and loss. I’m committed to providing a space where clients feel seen, heard, and understood. I believe that healing is possible when we feel safe to explore our vulnerabilities in a compassionate and nonjudgmental environment. I am always learning and evolving as a therapist, and I regularly attend workshops and training to stay up-to-date on the latest research and techniques in mental health care. My therapeutic approach integrates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness practices, and strength-based techniques. I’m honored to be able to support individuals as they navigate life’s challenges, and my goal is to help my clients gain insight, build resilience, and create positive change in their lives. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/heather-m-burkey-skye-windsor-co/929209 Heather Burkey-Skye, MA.
