Introduction

Welcome to the wonderful world of somatic therapy! I know it can feel intimidating to embark on a journey of self-improvement and self-acceptance. Luckily, SE (Somatic Experiencing) is a gentle approach to trauma-informed counseling that helps you ease into the process. It's great for beginners to therapy, as well as longtime therapy-goers who feel stuck in traditional talk therapy and want to access a new part of the work. Before we even get to work, my very first priority is to help you feel safe and regulated as we clarify your goals. I am a very collaborative therapist, so my work will only be done within the framework of the pacing and topics that you are comfortable with, and this can shift at any time. I believe that therapy is at its best when it is an open and inviting process, so authenticity is very important to me. I will never pressure you to change or push you in a certain direction. I value your agency and hope to walk with you on your therapeutic journey while empowering you to make the best decisions for yourself. Along the way I can ensure your safety, and I promise to hold your pain with you without bias or judgment. Whether you are experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, or you’ve just been feeling a bit stuck lately, I will meet you wherever you are and we can make meaning from your experiences together. Most of the work I do centers around trauma and awareness. I can help you build greater awareness, both around your emotional experiences and somatic experiences (in the body). I am passionate about the connection between trauma work and somatic awareness: because as we build awareness, you may become more cognizant of events and emotions that have been buried for a long time. There might be events from your past that you’re still feeling the effects of, or you might have just experienced something that is weighing on you. I can help you navigate these complicated and scary feelings as they arise in a gentle way that prioritizes safety and autonomy. I love nurturing the connection between body, mind and soul. I've seen how expanding this connection can transform the way you show up in relationships and the way you view the world. This has been a deeply personal journey for myself, and I'm honored to be a part of this process for my clients as well. The most gratifying part of my job is seeing how long-held patterns and narratives can shift for my clients and allow them more space to breathe and honor themselves. Mindfulness is very important to me. We cannot feel fully present until we acknowledge and name the various (and at times conflicting) parts of our experience. My favorite part of practicing SE is watching the "light bulb" moment happen for my clients: when they notice the heaviness receding and the world around them getting brighter. Tracking this together as we walk around the lake (ask me about a walk n talk session!) is always such a beautiful moment. Additionally, although I welcome people from all identities and walks of life, I do have special experience working within the LGBTQIA+ community. As a queer person myself, I bring a unique perspective and understanding to struggles around identity, self-acceptance, and the collective trauma we experience being a part of a historically oppressed group. If you’re struggling with your sexuality, gender identity, or trauma related to being a queer-identifying person, I am here for you.
