Ciao! My name is Gabriella Patronella. That’s a big Italian mouthful, isn’t it?! Yep, I know, that’s my life! Not to worry, you can call me Gabby! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). In addition, outside of being a therapist, I like to claim I am an amateur Sherlock Holmes and a competitive puzzler. Going back in time before I was a therapist, I was inspired by this career when my own personal journey with therapy began. Through this journey, I knew my purpose was to help people heal like I healed. After getting a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of St. Thomas, I continued at my alma mater UST to complete my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, graduating Summa Cum Laude. I am also an EMDR Trained Clinician and I am educated as a Trauma Focused-Equine Assisted Psychotherapist (TF-EAP). Aside from my trauma specialization, I also have clinical experience helping clients with a variety of mental health concerns, ranging from highly acute issues to general life improvements. I work with clients who have PTSD, anxiety, depression, issues with self-esteem, grief, ADHD, panic disorder, phobias, and relationship issues. Personally, I enjoy and value learning as a lifestyle, especially growing my knowledge as a counselor. In being a life-long learner, I have plans to complete a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program in the future to further my training as a clinician. In my experience with clients over the years, I’ve found that relationships are at the core of mental health, and the therapeutic relationship is fundamental in the therapy process. My primary focus as your counselor is to be a safe place for you to be your authentic self. I truly cherish my work as a counselor because it is an absolute privilege to hold space for that kind of vulnerability and witness such healing right before my eyes. Now, you may be thinking, “My issues are not that bad. I don’t have trauma! I just want some support.” It is important that we focus on your unique needs and goals. Yes, sometimes we just need support “talking it out” or learning how to cope with stressors, and sometimes there is a deeper pain underneath that we need to heal. Regardless of what brings you here, our life experiences shape us, in good ways and bad ways. There will always be struggles in life and the need for support. We will always aspire to grow and change. And.. we can always be happier. SO, why not just give it a go! Let’s help you get happier, grow, and feel more supported. I know this is scary - starting therapy takes courage. I promise you have the courage inside of you. We all do! As your counselor, I hope to make it less intimidating for you, but in the words of Elisabeth Elliot, “Sometimes fear does not subside and one must choose to do it afraid.” Be afraid and do it anyway!! I hope to see you soon.
