Introduction

There may be multiple reasons why you landed here. I recognize that finding a counselor can be a challenge. I want to let you know you have found a safe space. Greetings, I'm Dr. Seneka Gainer, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and Qualified Supervisor. I believe in the innate human capacity for connection, growth, and resilience. Raised in Yokosuka, Japan by military parents, my extensive experience spans the nonprofit sector, focusing on homelessness, mental health, counseling, and leadership. With training in individual, couples, family, and group counseling, I'm dedicated to meaningful work. Beyond my professional pursuits, I cherish movies, quality family moments, and exploring new destinations. Approach to Therapy As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, my theoretical orientation is deeply rooted in the fusion of several therapeutic modalities, each contributing to a comprehensive and holistic approach to client care. Guided by the pillars of Adlerian theory, Gottman methodology, systemic thinking, and solution-focused principles, I am committed to facilitating transformative change within individuals, couples, and families. Drawing from Adlerian theory, I engage clients in a collaborative exploration of their unique life stories, emphasizing the influence of early experiences and mistaken goals. By helping individuals recognize their patterns of behavior and belief systems, I empower them to shed light on unproductive coping mechanisms and foster healthier self-perceptions. My integration of Gottman methodology infuses evidence-based strategies to enhance relationships, emphasizing the importance of effective communication, emotional attunement, and conflict resolution. I draw from this approach to offer couples and families practical tools that strengthen connection, intimacy, and understanding. A systemic lens informs my practice, recognizing the interplay of relationships and environments in shaping individual well-being. I view challenges within the context of interconnected systems, considering familial dynamics, cultural influences, and social structures. This approach allows me to guide clients toward a deeper understanding of their roles within these systems and how their actions ripple through various domains. Solution-focused theory further enriches my orientation by facilitating client empowerment and resilience. By focusing on strengths, resources, and solutions, I work collaboratively with clients to identify achievable goals and generate strategies for sustainable change. This approach encourages a forward-oriented perspective, empowering clients to envision and enact their desired outcomes. By integrating these diverse theoretical frameworks, I create a personalized and dynamic therapeutic experience. Guided by empathy, collaboration, and a commitment to promoting holistic well-being, I strive to foster growth, healing, and lasting positive change within individuals, couples, and families on their unique journeys of transformation.
