In 1982, I was fresh from Missouri and in a PhD program at the University of New Mexico. The original plan was to become research psychologist focusing on sign language development in deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) children. Then some life happened. And then some more. Through some unexpected events, I ended up at Gallaudet University and then began working as a school psychologist with DHH children. This took me to Northern California, Oklahoma, Westchester County, New York, and Kentucky. Along the way, I studied art therapy and worked with DHH and hearing children in metropolitan schools, pueblo and reservation schools, rural schools, and treatment centers. In 2007, I finally finished that elusive doctoral degree in clinical health psychology and have provided individual therapy to adults. Since 2015, my therapy practice has been completely web-based. Throughout this journey, I’ve maintained my love for mountain trails, dogs, yoga, and theatre. Where does all this leave me? Well, I’ve met fascinating people in interesting places and continued to be delighted in the potential all humans have.
