Introduction

Dr. Regina Johnson is a licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor (LGADC) and a nationally recognized Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) with over 20 years of experience providing comprehensive mental health services to individuals, couples, and families. Her clinical practice specializes in trauma-informed care, substance use disorders, co-occurring conditions, and the integration of spirituality within evidence-based therapeutic modalities. Dr. Johnson began her career in Boston, Massachusetts, and has since served in diverse clinical settings, including community behavioral health centers and military treatment facilities. As a former U.S. Navy Officer and Chaplain, she provided psychological and spiritual support to active-duty service members and their families, addressing complex issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), moral injury, grief, and addiction. Her clinical work continues to prioritize the unique mental health needs of veterans, first responders, and high-stress populations. Originally from Brazil, Dr. Johnson is fluent in Portuguese (Brazilian and European dialects), Spanish, Italian, and English and is committed to fostering a linguistically and culturally inclusive therapeutic environment. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Johnson is a published author of several professional titles that explore the intersection of mental health, spirituality, and addiction recovery, including Religious Addiction, Mental Health and Spirituality, and Abused God: Religious Addiction and the Call for a Congregational Response. She has also authored numerous children’s books designed to help families navigate challenging and necessary conversations around emotional health, identity, resilience, and recovery - empowering caregivers and young readers - to engage in meaningful dialogue. Dr. Johnson offers a safe, compassionate, and professionally grounded space for those seeking healing from trauma, recovery from addiction, and clarity through life’s most complex transitions. She welcomes individuals from all walks of life ready to engage in transformative therapeutic work rooted in clinical excellence and holistic care.
