Hello my name is Dr. Lydia Sagar. A little about me... I completed my Master’s and Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Regent University (Virginia). From there on, I completed my doctoral internship at Genesis Counseling Center (Hampton). This is where I received in-depth training in comprehensive psychological testing for children, teens and adults with various mood, learning, developmental and behavioral disorders. These include but are not limited to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and Autism. My training also incorporated faith based counseling and social skills groups for young children. I have been a supervisor to several doctoral interns during this time and have enjoyed the training and mentoring process. For my doctoral thesis I was fortunate to study and publish on the impact of parental incarceration on young children. My book “Out of the Shadows- An Examination of the Needs of Children of Incarcerated Parents” discusses the research I have conducted as well the impact of the 8-week treatment program that I designed, and implemented with them. I have worked in the Geriatric field for six years doing individual and family therapy for seniors and their families in nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities. It is here that I learned to work with different disciplines such as physical and occupational therapy, social work and nursing. I have also worked as a clinical supervisor to those in pursuit of their mental health degrees. My leadership style is "to lead by example with a hands-on approach." I have been honored to have worked with Veterans conducting disability evaluations for various mental disorders especially that of Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from combat and sexual trauma. In doing these exams, I have learned to take into careful consideration every detail, from multiple sources in order to provide quality service. Finally, I have worked in a private practice setting with an emphasis on conducting medical clearance evaluations (pain pump and spinal column stimulator) and clearance evaluations for bariatric/weight loss surgery. Here at Salt and Light Psychological Services, our chief goal is to create a safe space for the individual- be it a Veteran, a Railroad worker, or anyone in the community (child, teenager, adult, senior) so that they in turn, can have a truly enriching experience- one where they feel accepted regardless of their background. Our hope is to foster a spirit of openness, so they they are able to receive the best possible service. We look forward to working with you!
