Welcome! I’m Dr. Hiltner. I specialize in working with trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), grief and loss, stress and adjustment disorders, and anxiety. I have experience helping adults with combat and/or deployment-related trauma, sexual trauma, including military sexual trauma, childhood trauma, complex trauma, and non-military trauma. I also specialize in providing individual psychotherapy to military service members, their adult dependents, veterans, & DoD/federal employees. I see adult civilians too. I cared for Veterans at the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the Fort Detrick VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic. I also helped military service members at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, as well as service members and dependents at Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, CA. My integrated approach to therapy is typically grounded in cognitive-behavioral therapy, while remaining client-specific, flexible, considerate of scientific literature, and guided by the client’s feedback and response to interventions. I strive to foster a non-judgmental environment and a strong therapeutic relationship where genuine empathy, concern, and compassion are conveyed. Deciding to begin therapy and figuring out where to start can feel daunting. New journeys involve some degree of unknown. While that can be stressful, it can also be incredibly rewarding. Therapy is a journey of self-exploration. Like any new endeavor, while there may be challenges there is often opportunities for growth and success. I look forward to assisting you, wherever you may be on your path. After all, each of our stories develops in its own way and at its own pace - and that is okay.
