I have been a counselor for 20+ years. I work primarily with children as young as age 2.5, adolescents, college-aged students, families, and adult women specializing in a variety of issues. I have worked at Hickory Grove since 2005 as a professional counselor and became the Clinical Supervisor in 2012. I have also worked in inpatient settings, group homes, Intensive In-Home counseling, and other outpatient facilities. As a counselor, I am humanistic in my thinking but I also use EMDR techniques to explore and reprocess past memories and negative cognitions. I value listening with a nonjudgmental attitude to change thought patterns that are not working. When working with young children, I use child-centered play therapy techniques to assist in building self-esteem and EMDR to assist in changing behavior. I have been married 25 plus years to Rev. Matthew J Phipps and I have 2 adult children.
