My goal is to help you reach your treatment goals. The focus of my work is you and building a relationship of trust where you feel safe to share the many hardships you’ve endured. My clinical training and research was special - it focused on both mental and physical health and how they affect each other. Do you have difficulty sleeping when you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed? Maybe reach for a cookie when you are feeling sad or disappointed? I not only target your emotional distress but also how it disturbs your physical health. Many areas of our life affect our health including family, culture, work, religion, relationships, society, politics and biology. My role is to help discover which of these areas are impacting your mental health. I provide specific psychological tools and techniques to both resolve emotional distress and help you identify areas of your life that may be a strength like your culture, religion and values. My broad training and evidence- based approach targets both your mental health and your overall quality of life. My approach with teens focuses on creating a safe and understanding space where teens feel comfortable sharing their many struggles. Treatment targets unhealthy coping (i.e. self-harm, food restriction, substance/alcohol use, suicidal thoughts and/or attempts etc.) and teaching new ways to think and behave. I honestly believe teens do the best they can with what they understand. My goal is to increase their psychological knowledge by teaching appropriate coping skills, emotional regulation, as well as how to build healthy friendships and romantic relationships. Attending therapy at this crucial time of life, gives a young person the opportunity to build strong self-esteem and learn these psychological skills that can have a life altering impact.
