Dominique Wilcox, LMSW, RPT. My background includes experience as a child therapist in behavioral/ mental health services. Twelve years in human services while working with individuals who qualify for OPWDD services. My therapeutic methods include Play Therapy, CBT, Solution-focused therapy, and Mindfulness with positive affirmations. Engaging in therapy services will encourage improvement in a person’s life as they challenge their mental health while learning coping skills and strategies. Being trained/certified in play therapy allows me to effectively work with children/ teens by providing a fun, safe space where they feel no judgment, and they will start to break down walls and build positive relationships with their parents/ parent/ family. As a parent of a child who is diagnosed with ADHD, I have personal and professional experience. Parenting a child with ADHD can be stressful on the caregiver; you could feel like a failure at times and overwhelmed. There is hope and room for change with any child/teen working through mental/behavioral health diagnoses. The right combination of treatment and strategies is needed to create a productive life for children/ teens. They will benefit from behavior guidance to learn self-regulation skills and to seek environmental modifications to improve focus, and at times, medication is an option along with therapy.
