The most important thing I want to convey to you is that I am really excited to meet you. I am being handed an opportunity to connect with another person. I am often struck by how powerful this process can be. You are bringing a host of emotions with you. You may be nervous, as this might be your first time in therapy. You may be sad/frustrated because due to various reasons you have had to start over with a new therapist. Therapy may have failed you in the past and you are skeptical. You may be despairing that there is nothing to be done to ease your pain. Please know that I will do everything in my power to make you feel welcome, connected, understood, and safe so you can openly share your feelings and frustrations. My office is the place for you to be you, with no judgments and nothing but a warm, listening, and caring professional to walk with you and be a catalyst for continued courage for your journey. With my compassionate, collaborative, and eclectic style, and using various therapeutic techniques, my emphasis is on helping you to make concrete, positive changes in your day-to-day life. This happens by gaining deeper self-knowledge and altering patterns of thoughts and behaviors that are standing in your way and preventing you from experiencing personal fulfillment and healthy relationships. Moving at a pace that is comfortable for you, I will help you uncover your “stuff” and lay it out in front of you so you can clearly see the connections from past experiences, unconscious negative beliefs, and stubborn behaviors to discover how they are holding you back, and ultimately to make real and tangible progress. I began my social work career as a child by being the friend who was always there to lend an ear or a shoulder on which to cry. I received such fulfillment from this that there was never a question as to what my future held. I graduated from Kean University with a Bachelors's Degree in Social Work and a Certificate in Gerontology. I furthered my studies at Rutgers University where I received my MSW and became an LCSW. I am also a wife and mother of 3 children, which cannot be dismissed as an educational experience. My background is varied. My love and fascination with medicine brought my early career to medical settings. I have worked in hospitals, nursing homes, a renal dialysis unit, and a cancer center, providing support for issues of daily living and counseling for patients and their families. I have also worked with young adults in a residential setting. Private Practice was the obvious next step for me in order to best utilize all of my training and skills. I presently work with adolescents, individuals, families, and couples with a myriad of issues. I began to see a pattern in my office. My nonjudgmental and easy to talk to manner began to allow people to talk about their sexual lives. This intrigued me and I felt the need to further my education in this area. I enrolled in the Sex Therapy Post Graduate Training Institute of New York and am now a Certified Sex Therapist. Thus began a new phase in my career; Sexual Health and Intimacy Issues, including, but not limited to Desire Disorder, ED, PE, Sexual Pain, Sexual Dysfunction, Orgasm Issues, Post Illness Sexuality, Trauma, Sexual Phobias, LGBTQ, Kink Aware, etc. I am open to all, and will never make you feel shamed.
