Finding the right counselor is an important to helping you walk through the journey of becoming mentally and emotionally strong. Like a coach or personal trainer, I will help you stop bad habits and learn new healthy habits. I have frequently helped individuals and couples deal with marriage and family issues like affairs, anger, trauma and abuse, communication problems or just growing apart. I also frequently help people deal with anxiety and depression, lack of ambition or burnout, addictions, social phobias, self-esteem and self-image, grief, loss and trauma. In addition to counseling, I also work with Employee Assistance Programs where I consult with corporations, government agencies, and business leaders to provide a stable and productive workforce. I have been helping individuals and families for the past 30 years. I grew up in Fort Worth, TX and attended Abilene Christian University where I received a Bachelors in Business Administration with a minor in Bible. I then continued at ACU to receive his Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy and a PhD from Oklahoma State University in Family Relations and Child Development with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have served as a minister in several churches, taught at several universities, served as President of the Board for the Texas Counsel on Family Relations, was a Senior Care Advocate for United Healthcare, and was a Vice President of Family Services at a local nonprofit children home. I have also had the privilege of been a frequent speaker at lectureships, youth retreats, professional conferences, marriage retreats, and church conferences on topics such as self-image and the motivation behind behaviors, family and faith development, parenting, adoption, marriage, adolescent development, blended families, and more. My family is active at our church where I serve as a deacon and frequent Bible School teacher, and we are involved in our local schools and the community. Church is where I learned my basic approach to counseling, which is found in Philipians 3:13: Forgetting what lies behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on to the goal of the higher calling. My personal interests include hunting and fishing, building and “handy man” projects, my daughter’s sports events, traveling, and supporting the local high school basketball team where my wife is the coach.
