Education and Training I received my PhD in clinical psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2022. I completed my doctoral internship at the Durham Veterans Affairs Health Care System from 2021-2022. I am licensed to practice psychology in North Carolina (license #6607). My training prepared me to conduct therapy with adult individuals, groups, and couples using various evidence-based therapy approaches, primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. My particular passion is working with couples using Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy. I have training and experience working with couples with a variety of concerns, including challenges within the relationship such as communication, roles and responsibilities, intimacy, trust/boundaries. I also have experience helping couples navigate challenges that originate outside the relationship but still impact the couple, things such as mental and physical health conditions and life stressors such as finances, discrimination, and work stress. Practice philosophy I believe that relationships have a transformative role in our lives. Positive, healthy relationships help us thrive and achieve more than we ever thought possible. Simultaneously, a relationship that has encountered challenges can compound the stress experienced in daily life. My goal is to (a) help you understand what has contributed to challenging patterns in your relationship and then (b) guide you in building new patterns that work better for you. I practice evidence-based couple therapy, which means I use strategies and principles that research has shown to improve relationships. I start the therapy process by learning what you want from therapy. We then work together to create a treatment plan, or a roadmap of how therapy can help you toward your goals. You are the expert of your relationship, so I like to spend our first meetings learning a lot about you as a couple. I then take the information I’ve learned about you and we talk about how the strategies I know can help you with your specific needs. Basically, my goal is for us to work together to understand how therapy can help you move toward where you want to be in your relationship. I’ve always been interested in relationships, so I often think about how we are all shaped by our social environments, particularly the people most central in our lives. And, beyond those closest to us, we are also influenced by our broader environment, such as the culture and society around us. Being treated unfairly by others to the point that we feel unsafe and/or unable to be our true selves because of our identities (including race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, and more) imposes stress on each partner and the relationship overall. Actively affirming each other is critical to our well-being. I strive to create an environment in therapy that actively affirms each of your unique lived experiences and how your experiences interact in your relationship. Fee I understand that there are many obstacles to seek out couple therapy. One common barrier is a financial one. I do not take insurance at this time. My hourly fee is $150. However, in some circumstances I can offer a reduced fee.
