Welcome to my virtual practice. My name is Doc. I identify as queer/lesbian and my pronouns are she/her. I first became interested in psychology in high school and was fascinated by the mind. This organ that creates invisible images that are so real yet intangible was a mystery I just had to understand. Having been raised on the low end of the socioeconomic status quo, I witnessed and faced many things like poverty, racism, homophobia and the difficulties associated with being raised in a judgemental time. Everything was "closeted" in my external world from sexuality to interracial marriages to difficulties within the family. I knew there had to be a better way. Throughout my studies I had the opportunity to work within populations struggling with emotion dysregulation, interpersonal difficulties, homelessness, addiction and severe mental illness. I've spent time in inpatient hospital settings and assisted with helping individuals to understand their difficulties through disability assessments, neuropyschological evaluations and educational assessments. I am grateful for the mentors and teachers that helped me along the way, but more than anything I am grateful for my life experiences. I am formally trained in CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing. My specialties are trauma, Borderline Personality Disorder, PTSD and acceptance. Through my experiences I have learned that things are not always what they seem to be. People's behaviors and actions towards others often are an indication of an internal struggle they are facing or the result of unresolved difficulties from the past. In other words, I learned that even when things feel personal, they are never about me. The exception to this rule is when my actions have caused harm. I learned to forgive the transgressions of others and to identify my personal boundaries and limits within relationships. I have found that a healthy combination of self care, personal boundary setting, acceptance, spirituality and adequate support are the keys to building a happy and healthy life. Let's work together to help you give voice to the strength within. The road to happiness is not an easy road, but I promise, with each obstacle you face and overcome, you will start to feel stronger, more in control of your thoughts and yourself.
