Introduction

Daniela Yanet Alvarado is a licensed Clinical Social Worker based in California. Known for her inclusive and community-focused therapy approaches, Daniela blends evidence-based practices with culturally compassionate therapies that serve people of color. Born to immigrant parents from Guanajuato, Mexico, and raised in Los Angeles, Daniela grew up with a strong sense of justice and an instinctive understanding of the social, historical and political realities that impact her community. Growing up in such a multicultural city molded and influenced her perspective and motivation to dedicate her life to making her community a better place. Daniela founded her private practice response to the high local demand for therapists of color. Her unique approach as a therapist — mixing evidence-based practices with eclectic therapies encompassing spirituality, culture and religion — has allowed her to better equip her clients with the tools to develop and strengthen their abilities to solve life’s problems and challenges. Daniela’s unique approach to therapy is inclusive and empathetic — she explains: “As your therapist, I believe that you are the expert of your life. I am here to guide you in the areas of your life that might be preventing you from being the best version of yourself. Evidence-Based Practices do not always meet the mental health needs of Latinx, African American, Asian, and Native American Indian communities, so creating my unique approach has allowed me to better help my clients.” With nearly two decades of experience as a seasoned social worker, working with adolescents, young adults, adults, and older adults across different LA County Departments and positions, Daniela has helped better the lives of clients from all walks of life. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s in Social Work, a certificate in Gerontology, and is a licensed Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy-Trained Therapist, Seeking Safety-Trained Therapist and Crisis Oriented Recovery Service (CORS). Daniela previously studied at California State University, the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. She attended high school at Internal Studies Academy — a liberal and creative human rights focused institution that she credits for forming her inclusive worldview.
