If so, you certainly are not alone. Anxiety has been shown to be one of the most common mental health complaints. As many as 40% of Americans are currently suffering from anxiety. Anxiety can look different depending on each individual. Some of the most common symptoms include: Feeling nervous, restless or tense; having a sense of impending danger, panic or doom; increased heart rate; trouble concentrating; racing thoughts, or unwanted thoughts Unfortunately, not everyone recognizes the symptoms of anxiety and do not seek always help for this very treatable issue. If you are here to get control of your anxiety, panic or worry, we are glad to assist you! Depression: Depression has been shown to be one of the most common issues people are currently facing. Around 23.2% of U.S. adults reported symptoms of depression in a recent study. What does depression that look like? It could look like any or all of these: Changes in sleep, appetite, energy level, concentration, daily behavior, or self-esteem. Depression can also be associated with thoughts of suicide. We use both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy to treat and manage issues related to depression. Marriage/ Relationship Therapy: So many times, we get busy with our everyday lives and we forget to put the time and effort into our relationships. We completely understand. One indicator of how we behave in relationships is how our parents behaved their relationships. By extension how our children will behave in their adult relationships will depend on how they see use act with our partners. Modeling a healthy relationship is a gift we can give our children. A therapist cannot save a marriage nor a couple’s relationship; only the couple can do that. Therapy can assist the couple to work through common marital issues by increasing communication, breaking down barriers, and practicing empathy and understanding. We use a combination of Solution-focused therapy (SF) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) when working with couples. Trauma Therapy: Roughly 70% of adults will experience some type of traumatic experience at least once in their lives. 33% of children and youth will be exposed to violence within their community that will cause them to experience Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). People experience and process traumatic events differently. Sometimes trauma is obvious. People who have survived assault, natural disasters, and death of loved ones may realize they are in a state of crisis. Sometimes however, trauma is more subtle, like a thousand paper cuts, instead of one deep wound. Traumatic stress is caused by locking traumatic memories in the brain, leading to associations with these bad memories. Sometimes traumatic events cause us to believe negative or untrue statements about ourselves. Some of the tools we use to treat trauma is called Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), & Psychotherapy.
