Introduction

Growing up, I gravitated towards the story of the Island of Misfit Toys. This band of misfits with odd quirks don't quite fit in with their more normative toy counterparts. Although their "defects" are unique, they share the reality of being together on this island, which affords them a kind of refuge in a world that can be quite cruel. Yet, this theme of being outcast is juxtaposed with another one: things that are storied as broken can still have value. Stories are powerful, and the clients who have welcomed me into theirs have shown me some of the ways that they have been storied: - As not enough - As a mess - As forsaken - As beyond hope Guided by the ethics of Narrative Therapy, I hope to remind you that you are not a problem - but problems are. I want to partner with you to be curious about and even rewrite the oppressive narratives that are getting in the way of you living a full and fun life. Together, I hope to co-create a safe space with you to discover and fortify your preferred story for how you want to exist in the world. Now, let's get started. "The difference between hope and despair is a different way of telling stories from the same facts" - Alain de Botton Education and Credentials: Master of Social Work (MSW) from Boston College IL License # : 149.021835 Narrative Therapy Certificate from the Narrative Therapy Initiative
