My name is Colette Heiser, and I truly believe that one of the deepest expressions of love and respect you can have for yourself is making time for your hopes, dreams, fears, and goals. As someone who has navigated mental health challenges for the majority of their life, I believe that “we are meant to heal the world in the ways we are the most wounded.” Life has taught me that you do not have to be perfect to deserve dignity, respect, abundance, healing, love, and life. It is the greatest honor of my life to be a Clinical Social Worker and to support individuals as they seek to find balance, clarity, hope, and compassion for themselves and others. My approach to counseling is to offer individuals a space to be themselves without judgment or shame but instead with curiosity and compassion. Life in the modern world is deeply overwhelming, distressing, and upsetting at times, and I do not believe that human beings were designed to handle so much stimulation without support. Sometimes, “mental health diagnoses” are honestly human reactions to the challenges of life and become a “diagnosis” when the symptoms begin to interfere with one’s relationships, ability to maintain employment, or daily functioning. My first experience with counseling was in college when the University encouraged students to take advantage of mental health services, as they can be helpful during “times of transition”. Life has taught me that the only constant is change, and learning how to find ease in the discomfort of change is a benefit of counseling that can not be undervalued. I specialize in treating individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, DV/IPV, and navigating healthy relationships. I incorporate approaches including DBT, CBT, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, mindfulness-based stress reduction, psychoeducation, and crisis intervention. As a nonbinary, queer, Buddhist, and neurodivergent person, I prioritize intersectional perspectives and operate with an anti-racist lens. I have substantial experience working in Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner Violence as well as working with children and adolescents ages 8 and up. I look forward to continuing my clinical practice by working with individuals of all ages who want to live more consciously and find balance, healing, and freedom.
