Introduction

Experience Claire Slama, LCSW, earned both her bachelor’s and master's degrees in social work from the University of Missouri, Columbia. She has worked for 18 years supporting children and families in many residential, school, and community-based settings. Claire has extensive experience working with youth of all ages, particularly those facing behavioral challenges. She has also worked closely with children impacted by trauma, anxiety, attention-deficit disorders, school, and peer related concerns. She utilizes evidence-based strategies to create a tailored approach for each client. Claire is passionate about helping children develop coping strategies, improve their social skills, and manage their emotions effectively. Additionally, she provides training and support to parents wanting to make positive changes for their family, equipping them with the tools to better understand and address their children's unique needs. Counseling Philosophy Claire believes in taking an active approach to healing and growth and emphasizes the importance of setting small, achievable goals to build and maintain success. She focuses on building trust and rapport, which allows children to feel safe and understood as they navigate their challenges. Claire assists clients in identifying coping skills that positively impact their thoughts and feelings, creating a pathway to resilience. By encouraging children to actively participate in problem-solving and pursue activities that align with their goals, she helps them cultivate a sense of accomplishment and self-confidence. Through hands-on activities, role-playing, and guided discussions, she creates opportunities for children to practice coping skills in a supportive environment.
