Growing up, most of us are taught to keep our feelings and emotions inside or keep them within the family. But what do you do when you can no longer control your feelings and emotions or keep them inside? What happens when you can no longer focus on the task at hand, or the pain and hurt are too much to bear anymore? What happens when you start to realize your life has become that depression commercial of just having a fake smile and hiding the truth about how you feel? What happens when you no longer know how you feel? When you feel numb, lost or at times on autopilot? When you finally realize you need to reach out for help, it can be scary. I get it; I have been in your shoes. It takes a lot of strength to even start looking for a counselor. I pray you find the one that works best for you. My name is Ciera Barth; you may call me Ciera. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Virginia. I graduated from Liberty University and completed my internship for my Masters's Degree at Centra Hospital in Lynchburg, VA, in the emergency department, and at a Christian Counseling Center located at Hyland Heights Baptist Church. After graduation, I started to work at Piedmont Community Services in their Franklin County Office and transferred to their Martinsville Office. I am still there full-time while I work on starting a private practice. I believe all of life’s storms have a purpose and it is to transform us. We each have our own storms to brave that shape and mold us into the butterflies we were created to be. The storms we face can be mild or quite harsh and may leave scars, hurts, pains, and even some joy and tears. It is vital to work through each experience and process their impact on our lives. I am called to assist each person through these difficult times. I have experience working with clients from various beliefs, creeds, ideologies, faiths, and religions. I know a lot of people have been hurt by faith communities, but my sincere intention is to help you grow, overcome your past and current situations, and be all you are called to be. I hope to help you see that you are more than just your past and current situations and that whatever those events are they will not and do not define you. Even if we don’t refer to a Higher Power in a session, I hope to help individuals see themselves the way their Higher Power sees them: as beloved, valued, and sacred. I believe every person is an expert in their own lives, and I’m just someone who has a toolbox full of skills and techniques to help you become the best you that you can be. I utilize Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered Approach, and Psychoeducational Approach.
