Hello, my name is Christopher Duerrmeier I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have a Masters of Education and a Masters of Art in Counseling Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Pace University. I am also the Clinical Director of Discovery Counseling Center, a local Bay Area community mental health clinic. During my time as a therapist I have worked with school aged children, adolescents in the Juvenile Justice System, adult individuals, couples and families. I have spent the last 10 years working in a community mental health clinic with clients suffering from a variety of life's struggles. I have taught at Diablo Valley Colleges Addiction Studies program and take a holistic and harm reduction approach to addressing addiction and substance use. My practice is informed by my life experiences and the healing work. Some of these life experiences include being an adult child of alcoholics, a father to two bi-racial boys, and learning to how to redefine masculinity through a compassionate lens. I also use humor to help in the healing process and may or may not quote Gandalf, a literary character from one of my favorite book series, as you can see above. In this work I know that when you show up and engage in the the practice of loving kindness you invite more ease into your life.
