Who am I: I am Christine Heaton. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor(LPC ), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Clinical Supervisor for LPC and LMFT licensure in Virginia, graduate of West Virginia University, and a graduate of George Mason University. Personally, I am shoe obsessed, enjoy reading and hiking with my dog. My clients will tell you I am someone you can trust. And, I have the skills and experience to address your needs. Who I am not: I am not an expert in your life, your lived experiences and in creating the life you want. Life brings many challenges. I do not have all the answers, but I believe they are within you to discover. You are the expert and I am along for the journey and will support you all the way. I will listen, be one of your cheerleaders and also one that challenges you. Who I work with: I provide behavioral health services to children, adolescents and adults. Services include individual therapy, family therapy, and couples counseling regardless of gender, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation. What to expect: Your search to find a therapist that best meets your needs has begun! Your wellbeing is everything and you are investing in yourself. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, whether this is your first time or not. You have taken a big step towards improved mental health by finding a good therapist. I help people find comfort. I am someone you can trust. I am strength-based and person centered. I am human. I am authentic. I laugh at your stories. I may tear up when you share your pain. I bring compassion. Humor is my friend. I absolutely love what I do. It is a true honor to sit with people who have let me into their lives. I create a safe space that allows you to trust, share and be supported. I help people become more awareness of themselves. Together, we look at patterns and coping skills that may impact your ability to be as successful as you wish. I also encourage people to love, accept and forgive themselves in order to live life to the fullest. I recently had a client, who previously had a negative experience with a therapist, ask, “Do you know why I returned for a second session? I offered a few thoughts and he simply said "You didn’t sit there filling out forms and taking notes.” He was right. No notes or paperwork. I am present and with you. I remember your stories, your experiences, your thoughts and feelings because they are important to you. Therefore, they are important to me. You should feel comfortable talking about what you need to, without feeling judged. I have heard most, if not all, of it. I can hold it with you and for you, when you need a little break. I have been a therapist since 1993 and have supported many individuals, families and couples. If you are looking for someone to provide you with emotional support as well as be direct and honest with you, I may be a good match as a therapist for you. What to do now: Schedule an appointment. Alleviate stress. Get support. Services are provided in the office or through telehealth appointments.
