Effective therapy is about empowering your client to discover, assess, and address the environmental, relational, and internal challenges. It’s about helping them to have that difficult dialogue with a person that’s free from judgment, advice, or opinions. As a therapist my challenge is to create an environment that you feel comfortable to communicate and help guide you to find those answers you have been looking for.” I have over 20 years of experience in the mental health field from community based, to Intensive Outpatient, Residential, Inpatient, Prison based and Military Support. Along with my professional experience, I enjoy utilizing my spiritual knowledge by bringing in perspectives from your beliefs to help in the healing process. I don’t believe in destroying or tearing down a person with the word of God. My life experiences and personality has afforded me the opportunity to connect and communicate with people on all walks of life. I stand by the premise, “Don’t judge a book by its cover. You might miss out on a rewarding experience.” My educational background includes a Bachelor’s of Arts from Wesley College and a Masters of Social Work from Delaware State University. In the field of Mental Health I have worked as a Clinical Social Worker at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. While at Walter Reed I worked with the most courageous individuals in our nation. I participated in numerous research studies to help address depression and PTSD. My experience at Walter Reed Army Medical Center was life changing, but it helped to open the door to researching alternative therapies. Another career challenge was working at an addiction based Residential treatment facility for pregnant or parenting women. It was here where I learned to integrate a therapeutic community with trauma informed practices. My professional background is broad and has given me the opportunity to work in a variety of settings. I work to provide clients with personalized treatment plans that can be integrated into their daily lives. Clients thrive from my direct, “Elephant in the Room” approach to counseling. In addition, I use meditation, hypnosis and strength based therapeutic techniques. My clients include children, adolescents, couples and adults with diverse backgrounds and range of concerns, which include but are not limited to Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Schizophrenia, Personality Disorders, Attachment Disorders, Substance Abuse, Trauma, ADD/ADHD, Oppositional Defiant or Family/Relationship Issues. I also provide clinical supervision to individuals seeking board certifications and licensures. As a therapist I do not act as the self-appointed expert in your life, advising on what you should be thinking, feeling, and doing; but rather as a guide on your journey, encouraging you to own and operate a solution through your own realization. In 2008, I began my private practice, New Beginnings Family Services which is currently located in Milford, Delaware.
